Community Contacts delighted to receive funding

Community Contacts

Carr Gomm’s Community Contacts Project will receive funding from the Scottish Government’s Support in The Right Direction (SiRD) 2024-2027 fund.

The funding was announced on Monday 15th April by Maree Todd, the Minister for Social Care, Mental Wellbeing and Sport.

As a previous recipient of SiRD funding, the Community Contacts project has been able to support thousands of individuals and families across Argyll & Bute and Highland by giving them a helping hand navigating social care through Self-Directed Support (SDS).

Becs Barker, Operations Manager for Community Contacts said:

“The Carr Gomm’s Community Contacts is absolutely delighted with this funding announcement. This will enable us to continue to reach out to people, including unpaid carers in Argyll & Bute and Highland to help navigate social care; to understand the choices open to them through Self-Directed Support and to realise their rights.”

Speaking on the SiRD funding, Maree Todd MSP said:

“Through this funding, people and carers will be supported to have more choice and involvement in how their social care is delivered. “We want everyone accessing social care to feel confident participating in every stage of their social care journey and be equal partners in their care and support decisions, so that they can live a full and independent life. “The ambition is to have the right independent support available at the right time and place to meet the specific needs of each individual.”

What does the Community Contacts Project do?

Community ContactsWorking with people, their families and partner organisations, Community Contacts:

  • Gives people time at any point to understand how to get SDS (when this is right for their circumstances) and to make informed decisions and choices after their social care and their ability to live the life of their choosing;
  • Helps people prepare for meetings and discussions with other professionals by sharing accessible and relevant information appropriate to individual people’s requirements and circumstances.
  • Provides information, advice and support to assist people to understand their rights and responsibilities when they choose to challenge SDS decisions.
  • Works intensively with people when they choose to manage their own social care budget, to develop plans and often to employ their own personal assistants directly.
