A Calm Considered Approach

Category:
Overcoming challenges

Yvonne and her son DougYvonne heard about the work of Carr Gomm in supporting people with Autism in Midlothian and approached us to ask if we would be able to support her son Doug.

“I’d like to compliment Carr Gomm on the three Support Workers provided for Doug. In Doug’s words, “They are very nice. They are all reliable. They are nice to talk to. They are reassuring. I think that speaks volumes. Doug responds well if he is well cared for. He would be very difficult if he did not feel secure and relaxed Doug comes across as very relaxed and happy in their care - I can assure you this is not always the case. Doug is very sensitive and can be very difficult to manage when he feels that people are not relaxed with him. If the chemistry is not good, Doug will respond negatively, which has never happened with his Carr Gomm team. Doug has many fears, paranoias and phobias which they have handled admirably which is why he feels reassured.

In summary, they provide consistency of care with a calm considered approach which is so essential when working with people with Autism. But most of all they listen to me, and take on board my advice, which, as his mother and main carer, is of paramount importance. All this means true respite for me as I can relax knowing he is in good hands.”
