With the current cost-of-living crisis, it is harder than ever to keep your home heated to a safe temperature throughout the Winter without breaking the bank.
Here are our top four tips for keeping warm at home, without turning on heating.
1. Keep Your Body Warm
In the colder months it’s more important than ever to keep your body warm.
Keep active and make sure you are moving at least once an hour to boost your circulation.
Even light movement (like walking to the kitchen to make a hot drink), will help warm you up!
Keep yourself warm in your living room or during the night by wrapping up in a thick blanket, shawl or duvet.
2. Wrap Up Warm
Layers, layers, layers!
An easy way to stay warm at home is to wrap up well.
Your head, feet and hands lose heat the fastest, so make sure you wear thick socks, gloves and a hat during cold snaps to preserve your body heat.
3. Use a Hot Water Bottle
A hot water bottle is a great way of staying warm at home during the colder month, and is a great way to stay cosy during the night.
Make sure you use a cover on your hot water bottle to prevent burns, and always be careful when handling hot water.
4. Ask For Help
There are people and organisations who want to help you keep warm this Winter – don’t be afraid to ask for help.
Citizens Advice Bureau can help you find grants and benefits to help you pay your energy bill, and around the country many organisations run warm spaces.
This Winter, Carr Gomm is delivering free Keep Warm Kits around Argyll and Bute, full of everything you need to stay warm at home. Email us at warmbox@carrgomm.org to request your kit, or phone Sara at 07789 396591.
