It was evident to me that the values and philosophy of Carr Gomm relate to my own very closely, so I joined the board in 2019. Being a trustee on the board gives me an opportunity to help deliver the mission of the charity and make sure the core values of the organisation stay the same going forward.

In recent years I have witnessed first-hand the increase in young people presenting with mental health issues and requiring more support than resources allow. In my personal life I also now have experience of dementia and severe physical disability, and so understand the importance of providing support for people living with these conditions.

I recently retired after working for more than 30 years in education: firstly in the secondary sector where I taught business and secretarial skills, and more recently in further education as a curriculum leader for events and retail. During those 30 years, I experienced many changes regarding education and training, and specifically the challenges of delivering more with less. I hope to use these experiences to support the governance of Carr Gomm.

When I’m not working I love to travel, I do enjoy learning and experiencing new sites and cultures and also enjoy reading. I am also hoping to buy an e-bike to join my husband in cycling.
