Carr Gomm’s Becs Barker gives evidence to the Scottish Parliament on SDS

Becs Barker, Carr Gomm’s Operations Manager for Community Contacts, Involvement, Quality and Innovation, gave evidence on behalf of social care providers on whether Self-Directed Support (SDS) has achieved its ambitions in Scotland.

SDS was brought in as the primary way that people access social care in Scotland. Its intentions were to ensure that care and support is arranged, managed and delivered in a way that support choice and control for individuals. Over 10 years since SDS was introduced through the Social Care (Self-directed Support) (Scotland) Act 2013, the Scottish Parliament wants to understand its progress towards meeting this intention.

Becs took part in an informal engagement workstream for this post-legislative scrutiny and brought the experiences from social care providers to a Health, Sport and Social Care Committee evidence session.
