Fund your support

Self-directed Support (SDS)

Self-Directed Support (SDS) is the way that most people access social care in Scotland.

Through Self-Directed Support, you have choice and control over the support you need to live your best possible life.

You will be asked to choose how you would like to fund your support and what support you would like by selecting one of 4 options available to you.

Find out more about these different options, resources on your SDS rights and ways to get independent advocacy and advice on our Self-Directed Support Page.

Independent Living Fund (ILF) Scotland – Transition Fund

The newly reopened ILF Scotland Transition fund is designed to support those in Scotland aged between 16 and 21 living with a disability.

It seeks to support those at an important transitional stage in their life to try new activities and experiences that will enhance independence, confidence and allow for spending more time with others.

This fund is open to disabled people who:

  • Are aged over 16
  • Live in Scotland
  • Receive a self-directed support/care and support package from their local authority to the value of £800 per week or more (after any care charge). This is the ‘threshold sum’ necessary for accessing ILF.

If you are eligible, your local authority Social Work team will apply to the ILF Fund on your behalf.
