We have been awarded £10,500 from the Scottish Government’s Wellbeing Fund to spread kindness to those we support.
The fund allows organisations, like us, to support community-led responses to COVID–19, through identifying and supporting vulnerable groups.
Our aim was to ‘Spread Kindness’ across the organisation by providing bespoke packages to help maintain the health and wellbeing of the people we support during lockdown.
We used the funding to purchase 382 #spreadkindness packages for people across Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Midlothian, Forth Valley, the Highlands, the Borders and Argyll & Bute.
To give everyone a choice of what they wanted, staff worked with people supported to submit Wish Lists to Amazon. This enabled them to pick the items and activities they would like to alleviate boredom and anxiety.
The packages have included a wide variety of things, such as puzzles, colouring books, stress balls, sensory items, board games, books, clothes, a wok, plants, puppets, art and craft materials.
People’s responses when they have received their parcels in the post have been priceless – with tears of joy, laughter and excitement all round.
