Celebrating Maureen’s Career in Social Care at Carr Gomm
After two decades of working in the social care sector, Maureen is retiring from her role as a Support Practitioner at Carr Gomm. Maureen’s career in social care has been defined by her commitment to helping others and making a lasting impact on the people she supported. Read on to learn more about her journey and why working in the social care sector is such a rewarding career choice.
Leanne Wells, Operations Manager shared this heartfelt message:
“After a great career that spanned over two decades of service, Maureen is retiring, leaving behind a strong record of hard work, kindness, and compassion.
Born in Foyers and later making her home in Inverness for most of her life, Maureen has always been someone who put others first. From an early age, she showed a strong work ethic, starting her career with Highland Haulage before moving on to the telephone exchange, where she spent many years of her life. As the exchange closed, Maureen embraced a new challenge as the manager of Aden House.
It was during her time at Aden House that Dr. McNamara, a local doctor and the director of Crossroads, recognised Maureen’s potential in the care sector and encouraged her to explore a new path with the organisation. Taking his advice, Maureen joined Crossroads in 2001, where she quickly became a valued member of the team. Her compassion and commitment shone through, and even after Crossroads moved over to Carr Gomm in 2011, she continued to serve the community with her dedication, clocking up an impressive 23 years of service.
Throughout her career, Maureen earned the respect of her colleagues and the people she supported. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, whether stepping in at the last minute or offering a listening ear. Her sense of humour and ability to build positive relationships with the people she supported made her an asset to Carr Gomm.
Maureen’s role at Carr Gomm may have involved fluctuating hours, from 10 to 20 hours a week, but she was always there when needed. Her consistency and reliability never wavered, and she leaves behind a lasting impact on both the staff and the people she helped over the years.
Outside of her work, Maureen is a mother to two sons and grandmother to four grandchildren. She has lived in the same home in Inverness for over 50 years, establishing deep roots in the community. In July 2024, Maureen celebrated a wonderful milestone—her 80th birthday—and as she enters this new chapter of her life, she plans to spend more time with her family, and maybe pursue knitting, and is keen to volunteer at the Carr Gomm shop.
Maureen’s career is a testament to her caring nature, her commitment to helping others, and her ability to adapt to change. As she retires, we celebrate not only her many years of service but the positive impact she has had on so many lives. Maureen, we wish you all the best in this next chapter of your life. May it be filled with relaxation, family time, and perhaps a little knitting along the way.”
Thank you, Maureen
Maureen’s retirement marks the end of an important chapter at Carr Gomm. Her commitment to the people she supported and the community she served is something we’ll always remember. We’re excited for Maureen as she steps into this next phase of her life, and we look forward to seeing her continue to make a difference through her volunteer work at the Carr Gomm Charity Shop.
We wish her all the best—here’s to a well-earned rest, precious family time, and maybe a bit of knitting too!
